MOROCCO THREE PEAKS
A High-Altitude Trilogy Through the Atlas Mountains
Toubkal – 4,167 m (13,671 ft)
The expedition usually begins with the ascent of Mount Toubkal, the highest summit in North Africa. The trail winds through traditional Berber villages, terraced fields, and rugged valleys before rising sharply into a world of rock and sky. The final push to the summit is steep but steady, and reaching the top feels like stepping onto the roof of the continent. From here, the panorama stretches across jagged ridgelines, deep gorges, and the distant shimmer of the Sahara.
Ras n’Ouankrim – 4,068 m (13,396 ft)
From Toubkal, the route turns toward Ras n’Ouankrim, a peak that offers a more technical and secluded experience. The climb involves scrambling over exposed ridges and navigating broken volcanic rock, rewarding you with a sense of solitude and accomplishment. Standing on its summit, you see Toubkal from a new angle—its massive silhouette dominating the skyline—and feel the quiet power of the High Atlas all around you.
Bou Ouzzal – 3,869 m (12,694 ft)
The trilogy concludes with Bou Ouzzal, a slightly lower but equally captivating peak. Its slopes are gentler, its ridges broader, and the approach often feels more meditative after the intensity of the previous climbs. The summit offers sweeping views across the Toubkal massif and the valleys that carve through it. It’s a fitting finale: a moment to breathe deeply, take in the vastness, and reflect on the journey.
