CONISTON 7 CIRCULAR
The Coniston 7 is a popular challenge among walkers and hikers in the Lake District, specifically focused on the iconic peak of Coniston Old Man. This event involves summiting seven Wainwrights surrounding Coniston, providing hikers with breathtaking views.
The peaks typically included in the Coniston 7 challenge are:
1. **Coniston Old Man** - The main peak, standing at 803 meters (2,626 feet), is known for its rugged terrain and stunning vistas of the surrounding lakes and hills.
2. **Dow Crag** - A prominent crag located to the southwest of Coniston Old Man, offering challenging scrambles and spectacular views.
3. **Great Carrs** - features a mix of rocky outcrops, grassy slopes, and picturesque tarns, making it a fascinating landscape to explore. The summit is characterized by a flat, rocky plateau, offering breathtaking views of surrounding peaks such as the Coniston Old Man and the southern Skiddaw range
4. **Brim Fell** - Situated near the summit of Coniston Old Man the summit offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, including Coniston Water to the south and the broader expanse of the Lake District to the north and west.
5. **Swirl How** - A more remote peak that forms part of the Coniston range, known for its breathtaking viewpoints.
6. **Wetherlam** - Wetherlam is characterized by its rocky summits and steep, rugged slopes. The mountain features several distinctive tops, with the summit often referred to simply as Wetherlam's peak.
7. **Grey Friar** - The summit of the fell is stony with two cairned rock outcrops, the south easterly is the higher while the north westerly offers the better view. There is a good view of the Scafell massif and the other Coniston fells are well seen along the ridge to the south
The Coniston 7 is suitable for all experience, but the terrain can be steep and rocky, and conditions can change rapidly. The challenge offers a mix of stunning landscapes, wildlife, and the unique charm of the Lake District.
